Isle of Man Sport Coaching Festival

Excite - Engage – Enable

Three exciting new coaching workshops will feature in the up-coming Isle of Man Sport Coaching Festival titled “Excite Engage Enable” which takes place over the weekend of Friday 7th and Saturday 8th September 2018. The workshops will delve into how coaches can develop exciting sessions that engage their participants and enable them to develop positive relationships with sport and physical activity that will stay with them for life!

How to Coach Engaging Sessions for Young People

Friday 7th September 6:30pm - 9:30pm

It all kicks off on the Friday with “How to Coaching Engaging Sessions for Young People”. Research and experience tells us that the biggest drop off in participation figures occurs with young people aged 14-25. What can we do as coaches to positively influence this trend? On this workshop coaches will learn theory and practical methods on how to ensure their coaching sessions keep teenagers excited about sport and wanting to come back every week.

Behaviour Change Tactics

Saturday 8th September 9:30am - 11:30am

Saturday morning is all about influencing behaviour, learning useful strategies to help people get active and innovative “nudge” techniques to ensure they stay active, on the aptly named “Behaviour Change Tactics” workshop. Behaviour change is a series of small steps taken over time as part of a journey. The goal of that journey may be to reverse unhealthy patterns of behaviour, such as an inactive lifestyle. This workshop will provide coaches with the tools and tactics to ensure participants develop and maintain the incentive to create lasting change in their lives.

How to Coach the Fundamentals of Movement

Saturday 8th September 1pm - 4pm

Finally on Saturday afternoon coaches can get practical and learn “How to Coach the Fundamentals of Movement.” This (a revamped version of the workshop) is aimed at coaches who work with all ages and abilities. This popular practical-based workshop will help coaches learn how to teach fundamental movement skills in order to develop physical literacy, key to nurturing healthy and active lifestyles.

These workshops which have never before featured on the Island will be delivered by experienced UK Coaching tutor Kam Raval who will be making his first visit to the Island. All courses are accredited by UK Coaching with official certificates provided along with accompanying coaching manuals for each workshop.

Light refreshments will be made available during the workshops at the NSC Café, including lunch on Saturday afternoon. This is a great opportunity to mingle with fellow coaches and share ideas on how you might use your new found knowledge in your coaching.

Isle of Man Sport is committed to supporting volunteer coaches in their development and aim to remove or reduce financial barriers where possible. With this in mind, coaches can book on to the whole weekend for a bargain price of just £20!
